Refashioned Flintridge Horse Show a Success!

The 91st Annual Flintridge Horse Show wrapped up on Sunday, April 22, following changes that have breathed new life into this historically significant show. The week of competition made that evident.

Flintridge Riding Club was formally incorporated in 1923 and soon became a forty acre facility. By 1956, Jimmy Williams was the FRC Riding Master and throughout the  60’s, 70’s and 80’s he -produced a group of the best riders over fences, in the world: Hap Hansen, Susie Hutchison, Anne Kursinski, Rob Gage, Francie Steinwedell-Carvin, Robert Ridland, Kathy Hobstetter, Kenny Nordstrom, Mary Chapot, Ronnie Freeman, Mason Phelps, Linda Hough, etc. Several of these riders have represented the United States at the top of the sport: Olympics, World Cup Finals, World Equestrian Games and International competitions.

The La Canada Flintridge Guild of Huntington Memorial Hospital sponsors the Flintidge Horse Show as a fund raiser. In some years the Guild has earned as much as $100,000 for the hospital and used that money to buy costly and essential equipment, such as a Navitrak that digitally positons all replacement joints, eliminating pain previously associated with even good eyeball positioning.  This small guild of supporters has looked into the future and made the changes needed to have an attractive and inviting A circuit Hunter/jumper show. The efforts paid off because stalls and classes were filled to overflowing this year and the show ended with a $25,000 Grand Prix on beautiful new arena footing.
