The Equestrian Trails Inc. National Horse Show and Convention takes place July 26-29 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, with two related events taking place at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center ―the Driving Show on July 14 and the Trail Trials on July 15.

Riders from ETI’s 35 local “Corrals” will compete in dozens of classes in Western pleasure and performance, hunters, jumpers, dressage, driving and trail trials.

Select classes will earn participants double points toward year-end high-point awards. There is also a Gymkhana Buckle Series and a Trial Rider Award Program (TRAP). Trail trials typically consist of 2-3 hour rides with natural (or simulated natural) obstacles along the way.

The festivities include the first annual “ETI Convention Mixer,” a barbecue on July 27 at Bette Davis Park (corner of Riverside and Victory), 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are only $5. Program includes a silent auction.

All events are open to non-members, but to collect points competitors must be registered ETI members who have signed up for the high-point circuit and registered for their classes in advance.

ETI also has a Junior Ambassador Program open to ETI youth age 7-21 that culminates in honors bestowed at the National Show. Junior Ambassador Queen, King, Jr. Miss, Jr. Prince, Little Miss and Little Prince crowns are the competition categories, with candidates evaluated on horsemanship, poise, personality and the results of a written test.
